Labuan Bajo, Indonesia

Labuan Bajo Indonesia

Labuan Bajo is a coastal fishing town on the western tip of Flores Island in eastern Indonesia’s Nusa Tenggara region. Once a small, quiet village, it has grown into a lively tourism hub and the main gateway to Komodo and Rinca Islands, home of the world‑famous Komodo dragons. Nearby Kanawa and Seraya Islands offer excellent diving and snorkeling, and each evening thousands of flying fox bats create a spectacular show over Kalong Island. Within a few hours of town you’ll find waterfalls, trekking opportunities, and a variety of beaches. Compact and walkable in about 10–15 minutes, Labuan Bajo has several interesting churches and a mosque. If you don’t feel like walking, motorcycle taxis (ojeks) and local minibuses (bemos) run frequently, and motorbikes are available to rent. The town has multiple ATMs and paved roads. Komodo Airport sits about 1.25 miles (2 km) from the town center and is served by several daily flights from Bali. The harbor offers regular ferry connections to Bima, as well as weekly or bi‑weekly sailings to Denpasar and Sulawesi.
